Patty Grau

I have a sarcastic sense of humor and abhor being categorized or restricted. This leads to vast experimentation with materials and tools, such as using a house painting brush to do watercolor.

My father had a plumbing business where I would spend hours playing with plumbing supplies and window displays of refrigerators and stoves, complete with plastic food. It was there I learned that if a tool doesn’t exist for a job that needs doing, you make it. He had a man for each job: a plumber, a carpenter, a tile setter, a painter, a ditch digger. Dad never turned a job away and believed all things were possible. He gave each man respect for his years of experience and the credit for a job well done. This influence gave me a sense of freedom knowing all problems are solvable and the courage to try anything.

I want to always be challenged or fighting boundaries. I know if I don’t know how, I can learn and if I can imagine, I can make it.
